bags, kids, Claudio, and more bags...

okay... so today we went to Lugoj which is like the nearest big city... I think i heard around 50,000 people, so not too big... but big for around here... anyways we went to Lugoj to buy groceries to gie out at the villages... we stopped at a brand new christian school that openened up this year... they have goals to have 1-8 grades... right now they have preschool and 1st grade... we got to visit each class... the kindergarteners sang the months of the year song in english... the 4 & 5 year olds sang twinkle twinkle little star in english... it is pretty amazing that most kids around here know at least two languages... I learned how to say "what is your name" how old are you", "you are beautiful" (will explain... don't worry), and my dog's name is charlie...
anyways, we toured the school and exchanged money there... seriously some guy shows up with like a billion lei (romanian currency) and just starts flipping through them while we give him our dollars... I gave him $100 and he gave me 320, 000 lei!!! the rate is about 3,300 lei per one us dollar... the school said that it costs the equivalent of $80 per month for a child to go to that school... which is amazingly cheap... for us... not here... most people don't make enough to be able to send them...

i thought about maybe raising $80 at Shift to see if we could help kids to go to school in a christian environment... a safe environment... just a thought.. there are a lot of thoughts... i won't put them all down here, because i know you or whoever would be bored to tears... this guy had a ton of cash or lei however you won't to look at it... i didn't want to ask any questions... so i was just happy to exchange money... i bet this guy had some serious contacts in the romanian mafia if there is such a thing... just kidding... maybe
after the school... we went to what was basically a romanian sam's club... we bought about $600 worth of food which was about 19 million lei!!! but that bought 100 bags worth of groceries and supplies for 100 fmailies in a bunch of villages and pastor's families... curran and i also bought som romanian pasta which is awesome and som chocolate to bring hom and share with everyone...
then we packed 100 bags with cornmeal, rice, sugar, oil, pastas, soap, clothes detergent, bleach, and dish detergent... we have pictures of the 100 bags looks cool, sorry we can't get them on here right now...
after dinner curran and i went to Fardea a small village to preach at their prayer service... it was mostly older people... the men and women sat on different sides of the room... they have a small pretty church building... their was a young man and his wife Claudio and I can't think of her name... he translated for me during the message... really awkward to preach with a translator... after the service got to speak with Claudion and some things that he and his wife are dealing with... we prayed for him and then they dropped us off... right now everyone is wanting to get online to email their famiy and friends... and my laptop is the only thing working...
i will write more later... i am still amazed at how alike we alle are... people in the world... we are so much more alike than we are different... it is easier to see when you are however many miles away and in a place where everyone speaks a different language...

God please continue to remind me and Curran and everyone how big you really are... you created us all in the image of you... even those who persecute the church and people who love you... they were created in your image... help me us to have a faith that is bold and a love that is not dependant on who the other person is... let us see others as our brothers and sisters...

  1. Wow Essick boys..what a wonderful experience for both of you...to see that god is prevalent in other lands and that you get to be a part of witnessing in another part of the world. If you can bring back some recipes from there...Kyle is a heck of a cook and plans on attending Culinary Arts school after high school...he loves to try new recipes!!
God Bless and keep you and Curran safe,
